Sandy Rayla's The Beautiful Wife is
a very good read! I should start out, though, by mentioning that this
book should be read with a grain of salt and Bible in hand. I say this
because this book assumes two things about the reader: 1) that she is a
"typical" woman, and 2) that she is married to the "typical" man.
While reading this book, I found that not all of the tips and encouragement applied to me in my marriage. You see, I am the one who enjoys football and golf, and I was raised to hold my own in a household and be an equal partner with my husband. My husband enjoys cooking, cleaning, and is very good with kids and parenting. He also believes that a wife is on equal footing with the husband in the eyes of God. With all this in mind, I sat down to read, and mentioned some of the points I knew didn't fit our marriage to my husband. I was met with "I married you because you're NOT like that," "That doesn't fit me at all! It would not work the way she says if you started doing that," and "it works out better if I am the one to hold that position in our marriage." All of which I agree with. So - bear in mind that, while this book is an incredible wealth of information, you may not find it will work well for you in your marriage. I suggest keeping in mind God's view of a man and woman in marriage while you read this book. Doing this, you will find much of the book beneficial while not feeling guilty that some parts would mean disaster if you tried to implement them as illustrated in the book.
There are things this book does well. One is focusing (repeatedly - that's a good thing) on the importance of prayer and communication in marriage. These are two things that seem like they should go without saying, but it's always good to have a reminder and the tools and tips she gives to keep these two important parts of your marriage in tact are all beneficial to just about any couple. I also liked her focusing on the fact that marriage and your spouse should be placed ahead of your children. The marriage and relationship between husband and wife is what makes the rest of the house run smoothly. These, along with other topics, are well discussed and well fleshed out in this book.
I highly recommend this book, as long as you promise to read it with that grain of salt and Bible in hand! Happy Reading!!

About the
book:
The Beautiful Wife uses
these inspiring stories along with biblical principles to guide and encourage
any wife looking for God's best in her marriage. The Beautiful Wife answers
serious questions women have about their roles as wives. Discussing everything
from romance and money to beauty, communication, and sex, Sandy challenges women
to open up and share their journeys so that together they can see God's plan for
their marriages. "It is my passion to help women discover God's heart for their
marriage, just as the other women helped me," writes Sandy. "When women share
with each other the details of their journeys with God as wives, it's a
beautiful thing indeed." The Beautiful Wife has two companion resources
- Prayer
Journal and Mentor's
Guide.
